International Symposium of Spatiotemporal Data Science

The 2024 Spatiotemporal Data Science International Symposium and Workshop was held on July 23-24, 2024, co-sponsored by the Vice President’s Offices of Virginia Tech and George Mason University, the NSF Spatiotemporal I/UCRC (STC), the Spatial Data Lab project (SDL), the Future Data Lab, and the Journal of Urban Informatics.

This event aimed to foster discussions on replicable and expandable spatiotemporal data science, emphasizing new methodologies and innovative technologies. Participants engaged in discussions on emerging methodologies, technologies, open data sources, and advances in the spatiotemporal data science field. The symposium featured multiple speakers, parallel sessions, and poster presentations, with options for both onsite and online participation.

Attendees had opportunities to network and collaborate with professionals in the field. Selected papers presented at the symposium were considered for publication in special issues of the Journal of Urban Informatics, Remote Sensing (Big Earth Data for Climate Change), and Big Earth Data (Spatiotemporal Data Science) following the regular review process. Digital Twins panel and several sessions were featured to discuss the spatiotemporal data challenges and opportunities of DT.
