Lingbo Liu and Fahui Wang published their research on “Delineating Urban Agglomeration Regions in China by Network Community Scanning: Structures and Policy Implications.” This study introduces the innovative Network Community Scanning (NCS) method, offering a robust framework for network-based community comparison research. Using 2023 Baidu Mobility Data (January–December), they analyzed human flow patterns between cities, defining regions that align closely with official urban agglomerations (UAs) while uncovering discrepancies and opportunities for refinement. Providing new insights into community affiliation based on structural factors, enabling real-time analysis of hierarchical and polycentric urban structures through metrics like PageRank centrality. This work applies GeoAI and big data to community analysis and network science, providing valuable tools for policymakers and urban planners.
