The 20th semi-annual IAB Meeting

The 20th semi-annual Industrial Advisory Board (IAB) meeting of the NSF Spatiotemporal Innovation Center took place in a hybrid format on November 2nd-3rd, 2023, at George Mason University. The IAB meeting served as a platform to review the center’s innovative research, foster collaborations between academia, industry, and government agencies, and support new projects.

            The meeting kicked off with a warm welcome by Andre Marshall, Vice President for Research of George Mason University, setting the tone for the two days of collaboration and innovation. Dr. Wendy Guan provided insights into the center’s status and facilitates discussions that will shape its future. Attendees had the opportunity to explore various projects, such as “Developing Workbenches for Spatial Data Science” and “Heat Stressor Solutions for Informal Settlements.” These projects showcase the cutting-edge research being conducted within the center. Dr. Matt Rice leads discussions about ongoing projects and potential new sites, including UW, PSU, Emory, and UW-Madison. On the first day, the event hosted a poster session, where attendees engaged with researchers and explored their work. 

The second day was filled with in-depth reviews, discussions, and summaries of the meeting’s proceedings. Dr. Phil Yang, Dr. Wendy Guan, and Dr. Daniel Q. Duffy outlined the upcoming plans, including the Digital Twin Webinar Series and the Spatiotemporal Data Science International Conference. This IAB meeting is an excellent opportunity for the center’s researchers and members interested in geospatial and spatiotemporal research themes. This meeting provided attendees with insights into cutting-edge research results, collaborate with experts in the field.

Dr. Yang, center Director, organized the meeting with the center leadership and IAB.  At the conclusion of the meeting, he delivered closing remarks to thank all members for their long tern support, and center researchers who worked diligently to enable addressing many scientific and engineering challenges.
