At this year’s CMD-IT/ACM Richard Tapia Celebration of Diversity in Computing Conference, we witnessed the unveiling of powerful platform dedicated to promoting diversity and inclusivity in the tech world. Shyra LaGarde and Jia Lu, START advisor and participant, were both recipients of scholarships to attend the conference. One valuable highlight was the career fair, offering attendees valuable options for exploring opportunities in both industry and academia. Moreover, the banquet events were graced by inspirational figures like Tara Astigarraga, an IBM Master Inventor renowned for her impressive portfolio of over 75 patents. Tara also has a well-deserved reputation for her mentorship efforts, particularly among Native Americans and women in STEM fields. During her speech, she emphasized the importance of stepping out of one’s comfort zone as a key pathway to advancing in your chosen field.
