Digital Twin Webinar

The digital twin webinar series was kicked off on June 15th with a focus on the concept, practices, and vision of digital twins for earth system and geospatial sciences. Digital Twins offer a unique opportunity to leverage extensive data collected over the past 50 years. Earth System Digital Twins enable us to explore the past, monitor the present, and forecast the future with improved accuracy. Dr. Jacqueline Le Moigne, the keynote speaker and program manager of the NASA AIST program, introduced her vision and the cohort of 14 digital twin projects for earth system digital twins.

Mr. Stan Posey provided valuable insights and experiences based on the NIVIDIA earth-2 digital twin. He discussed the utilization of fast AI surrogate models and high-resolution ensembles, underscoring the pressing need for interactivity in climate and weather predictions. The collaborative efforts between Nvidia, renowned US academics, and national labs are shaping the future of this remarkable technology.

Dr. Goodchild, delved into a thought-provoking discussion on the untapped potential of digital twins and whether we have reached the technological threshold. Emphasizing the goal of creating a comprehensive digital twin model for the ecosystem, and the opportunities as well as challenges facing us today.

This ongoing webinar series on Digital Twins will shed light on various aspects of digital twins from various perspectives. An in-person workshop will be organized to develop a research roadmap based on the webinar series.
